City of Copenhagen Sponsors Copenhagen Games

Within the recent years; esports have seen rapid growth. This can also be felt in Denmark. In our country competitions in PC and console games existed since the 1990s but in the last few years Denmark has joined the frontrunners in esports.

“Esports is very popular and that is something we can feel in Copenhagen. At the city’s department of culture and leisure we are constantly working to create the best circumstances for Copenhagen’s citizens to cultivate their interests and become a part of positive communities” says Mayor of Culture and Leisure in the City of Copenhagen, Franciska Rosenkilde (Å).

This is also seen at Copenhagen Games, Denmarks largest esports festival. People from all around the world travel to spend their Easter watching and playing in esports tournaments. Not least because the festival has become a gathering point for the esports community, educational institutions, and business world.

But Copenhagen Games would not be possible without the support from the City of Copenhagen, who has been an essential partner to the festival since its inception. This year the city’s Culture and Leisure Department has even chosen to up their support with 150.000 DKK, which means the festival will receive a sponsorship of no less than 750.000 DKK.

This naturally brings joy to the organisation behind Copenhagen Games.

“It’s important and pleasing that the City of Copenhagen has chosen to support Copenhagen Games so strongly. Copenhagen is an engine in Danish esports and this support helps ensure that Denmark continues to grow towards being one of the most important countries in esports in the world.” says Zahid Butt, CEO of Copenhagen Games.

In the City of Copenhagen, they’re excited to back the esports festival’s eleventh event.

“Copenhagen Games is a festival that addresses a broad audience; from the curious Copenhagener that wishes to see what esports is all about, to fans coming to cheer for their favorite teams.” shares Mayor of Culture and Leisure, Franciska Rosenkilde.
