Introducing the 64 team format

After listening to the CS community, we've decided to change the format for the CS:GO tournaments at Copenhagen Games 2019.

When we originally made the format for our CS:GO Main Qualifier Tournament we made a format that in the quickest and most effective way would qualify 4 teams out of 128 in one day. This meant however that teams could potentially be knocked out of the qualifier by simply losing one best-of-one match. Something that the community have expressed their opinions on.

With fewer than expected sign-ups however, we have decided to only allow 64 teams to enter the tournament. This allows us to make a new format that is better suited for the competitiveness of the tournament.

Today we therefore present af new format for the Main CS:GO Qualifier tournament.

Moreover, we will be changing up the B and C tournaments due to this new Main Qualifier format.

We hope that our participants and the community will appreciate this new format and we are thankful for the open debate we have had on this matter.

New structure for the Main qualifier

The Main CS:GO qualifier tournament will now feature a single round-robin group stage with best-of-one matches from which top 2 teams from each group will advance to the playoffs stage of the qualifier.

The playoffs stage of the qualifier will feature a single elimination best-of-three format with 4 teams advancing to the Main CS:GO Tournament.

New structure for the B tournament

Every team that gets knocked out of the playoffs stage of the qualifier will be placed in the B-tournament beginning Friday.

The B-tournament will still use the same format as originally announced. However the tournament will now feature more best-of-three matches in the group stage.

The format consists of a GSL group stage with a best-of-one format in match 1 and 2. The remaining matches will be played as best-of-three and 2 teams from each group will advance to the playoff stage. The playoffs stage will be played as single elimination with all matches as best-of-three.

New structure for the C tournament

The C-tournament will have a new format.

Every team that gets knocked out of the group stage of the Main Qualifier will be placed in the C tournament beginning Thursday afternoon.

The tournament will feature a single round-robin group stage with best-of-one matches and teams will be divided into groups of 8 making up four groups in total.

Top 4 from each group will advance to a single elimination playoffs with best-of-three matches.

We hope that our participants and the community will appreciate this new format and we are thankful for the open debate we have had on this matter.
